These workshops are addressing the major changes in the upcoming 2019 Edition of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes to a hundred registered attendees. Paul Lang, ASME CA Director of Product and Personnel Certification, opened the session by thanking BSB Edge and HSB for their collaboration efforts in bringing awareness and understanding of the 2019 BPV Code Edition Updates to ASME Certificate of Authorization holders and other users of the Code. Paul went on to give an overview of the ASME consensus process in the development of ASME’s internationally recognized Codes and Standards, describing their uniqueness of having technical, quality, and administrative requirements within the Code to show documented compliance. He also described ASME’s product and personnel certification schemes. Paul closed his presentation with the benefits of ASME Certification and stressing that End Users must truly understand the risks and costs involved in purchasing a pressure retaining item that bears the ASME Single Certification Mark and one that does not. Subsequently, Hartford Steam Boiler’s Thomas Pastor, Vice President Codes & Standards and Jayaram Vattappilly, Manager, Codes & Standards led the interactive discussion sessions covering the key changes of the upcoming ASME 2019 Edition of Section I, II, V, VIII Divisions 1&2 and Section IX. Additionally, they presented a select number of Code Cases and Interpretations from each of these Code Sections. These workshops are conducted to give the engineering community, utilizing ASME Codes and Standards, a better understanding of the upcoming changes and the committees’ reasoning behind some of these changes.
